Properly setting up your software ensures a smoother workflow and helps you get your 3D-printed product faster. Here’s how to configure 3ds Max for successful 3D printing with Marketiger.
1. Setting the Correct Units
Units are crucial. Incorrect unit settings can cause your model to upload at an unexpected size.
In the image below, you’ll find the recommended unit settings for 3ds Max.
Navigate to:
Top Menu > Customize > Units Setup
- Display Unit Scale: Select Metric and choose Millimeters from the dropdown menu.
- System Unit Setup: Click this option and ensure the System Unit Scale is also set to Millimeters.
With these settings, your exported OBJ file will upload to Marketiger at the correct size and scale.
2. Export Settings for OBJ Files
When exporting your model to OBJ, proper export settings are equally important. The attached image shows the recommended export settings.
- Under Faces, select Triangles to ensure that all geometry is exported correctly, regardless of how the model was designed.
Next, click on Map-Export...:
- Enable Use map path.
- Clear the text in the line below (currently showing Remove). This line must be empty.
If text remains in this field, the MTL (material) file will reference a folder on your local computer, which we cannot access. Clearing this line ensures that the texture maps are correctly linked when we load your model.
3. Final Step: Export Your Model
Once everything is set, click Close in the OBJ Map Export Options and hit that Export button!
Go to the exported files and compress the OBJ, MTL and texture file(s) into a zip.
Your model is now ready to be uploaded to Marketiger for printing.
