There are many ways to successfully texture models, but to set you up for the best results, here are some key tips from us.
Substance Painter
-
When painting in Substance Painter, we recommend using the Base View.
Since models are printed based on the diffuse map, the Base View provides the most accurate preview of the final printed result.
- While you can bake roughness, normal, and height into the diffuse map by exporting textures using the 2D View setting, be aware that this method also incorporates environment lighting during the painting process. This can result in unintended shading, making one side appear darker than expected.
- We recommend using (or creating) the following export preset:
This setting ensures that the exported model includes the diffuse map along with alpha mapping, allowing for transparent parts.
👉 Learn more about transparency here: [MORE INFO] - If you choose to export using the 2D View setting, all texture channels will be baked into a single diffuse map. Keep in mind that this can sometimes create darker areas in your design due to baked lighting.
By following these guidelines, you’ll achieve the best possible results for full-color 3D printing! 🚀
